Sketchy to Color

Just finished a late night project that is due in 7 hours (I'll post it later). Since I'm up here's something:
I sketched this in my Illustration class from Fall 2011, going for a Mike Mignola style. Threw it in Photoshop and came out with:

Just some color and mood.

Let me know what you all think, if I get comments I promise I'll post more regularly.

Been awhile...

Hey all,
Getting back into it with much more things to post, starting with this number I did for a Halloween assignment:

Even Death needs groceries

Simply black and white prismacolor pencils on toned paper. It was a fun piece to do. More to come.

Jan 5-8 Daily Sketch

I found this awesome reference/gesture website http://www.pixelovely.com/portfolio/ (at the bottom of the page) where you can set some parameters about what images you want to see and how long you want to see them and it'll basically give you a slideshow which is great for quickly sketching some poses. I tried it for animals as you can see and went back and markered a few of them. I need to do more of these.

Jan 2-4

I found the perfect way to stay awake on those dreary Sunday meetings: Draw. These are some attempts with varying degrees of success and failure.

Here is a few days' worth on one page. I've noticed I tend to draw faces and people. Maybe I'll branch out eventually.

The start of something...January 1

So I'm gonna skip the been-a-long-time-posting crap and get back to it.
I set a resolution this year to draw every day. The idea was to post it here on this blog to add some incentive. Well I've done pretty well on my daily sketching and now I'm finally getting to the posting part so here comes a bunch of posts covering the last 3 months. Get ready...

The kid in the shirt and tie is from church I saw the week before. I was also watching Quantum of Solace so there's the Daniel Craig.

Vis FX Simulation

I created this in Houdini. My goal was to create a realistic glass shatter effect. This was done in Houdini. Sadly I had countless stumbling blocks when I tried to render it. Instead I took screenshots of every frame and compiled it in After Effects.

I noticed the floating glass pieces and tried to mask them out:

My Final Final

video

And here it is. I didn't get done on it all I wanted but there's a bit more than before. Namely this stuff grows up on the bottom, it's hard to see this small but it's supposed to be some kind of fungus stuff. Sadly I didn't have time to touch up anything other than the organic growing at the beginning and the fire, so no continuous detail inbetween (sorry Ryan, but thanks for your feedback).
Anywho, I really enjoyed the class and learned a great deal and don't feel nearly as rusty as I did 4 months ago, so yay! Now I got a month to do my own stuff, so stay posted people.

Also, Merry Christmas :)
