Link painting practice

Over the last couple months I've been involved with a fundraiser for blood cancers for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (lls.org). It left me with very little time to do my art and I let that slide for the time. Not that it's over in getting back into the game!

I started off with some watercolor on some nice watercolor paper swatches I have. Link is ready to do heroic things!

Portrait sketchin' #1

I'm practicing my portrait sketching. I've always loved the style of David Malan's portrait sketches and tried to work that in here. I have learned that i need practice! Started with my cute niece. She's a twin so maybe I'll try her sister next and see if you can tell the difference. That makes sense, right?

Sunday sketching

I have a Sunday sketch book. I only use it on Sunday when I go to church. It comes along with my scriptures and gets used almost as much. I forgot about this guy until I skimmed through it tonight, so in the name of keeping my blog alive here is my grumpy friend.

Zombie Valentine

"You have my heart! Here!" Zombies can be such romantic, literal saps. I sketched this a year ago and finally got around to coloring him.

Zombie guy!

Started watching The Walking Dead. I can see how people get sucked into this show. Lots of dead people. So I drew this. I've started trying to stick to a more cartoony style, it is much fun.

It's a rooster! And my schizophrenic mind...

Someone talked to me about roosters the other day so when I couldn't think of anything to draw, that came to mind and here we are. If you'll forgive a little existential blogging (NO! This is your art blog!) It's interesting how what started as a conversation and thought has now become a physical something on paper. I'm sure some a classroom somewhere has gone much deeper than that. (I guess that's kind of art related, it may stay).  I need to play with markers more often.

Cable: The Time Traveling War Vet

When is he gonna finally get a movie?!

Everyone's (but mine) favorite mutant

Part two of my sick day involved sketching up this guy while I watched "The Wolverine". I think i liked that movie more than most people. I really want to improve my figure work so I'm gonna be doing more of these sketches. After getting this far on him I realized I had more room on my page to add on. Expect to see more mutants looking all stoic next to him...

I am much more finished Groot

Got sick yesterday so I had plenty of time to draw and draw I did!

#10 I am WIP Groot

Still been doing sketches, just not ones worth posting (to which some hater somewhere replies "But none of your sketches have been worth posting!"). I started a doodle of a certain tree alien and it has started to develop over the last couple days. Look for a finished version in the next day or so...

#9 Cyclops attempt

I can't count the number of times I've tried to draw this guy and never have it come out right. This would be attempt #42 or so. On another post I'll bore you with why he's my favorite super hero, but for now you can just check out my sketch :)

2015 #7 Football Giant

I'm pretty sure their size isn't natural.

2015 #6

Now for some painting! I have always loved the look of watercolor when done well, I hope to get there :)

I just got a fancy, perfect sketchbook with paper made from 100% cotton. What better way to get some practice with a guy with a deformed ear. It's a great conversation starter for him.

2015 #5

I may have gone a little too heavy on the white with this one. He doesn't seem impressed by it either.

2015 #4

An update to a sketch I did years ago of an octopus juggling... Except this octopus doesn't really look like he's juggling.

2015 #2

Been watching more basketball lately. My strategy for igniting the art fire: buy new pens! I've been needing a new Signo White Gel pen for awhile and this is my first legit fountain pen. It's so smooth!

Here we go again

A new year and a new resolve to art. I'm trying to do at least a sketch a day. Last year was a roller coaster of changes and I definitely let my art slip by the wayside. This year I get back to it starting with this happy creepy creature.
